Yoga cured my weight lifting injury.
I’ve been an athlete all my life and have always loved the feeling of challenging my body. In January 2009, I made an error in judgment while lifting weights at the gym and deeply tore my right shoulder. For months, I was no longer able to move freely and pain-free. Not only that, but I started to atrophy on the right side and created compensation patterns that were making me imbalanced and asymmetrical. I started to become depressed and even considered just giving up and sitting on the couch for the rest of my life.
By using yoga and Nia Five Stages of Self Healing, I was able to eliminate my pain and regain proper function, balance and integration of my shoulder within nine months of the injury.
Today, my passion is doing practices that are challenging enough to create changes, but that also supports healing, pleasure and comfort, and encourages total integration of the whole body, bringing optimal functionality.
After discovering the surprising power of yoga, I wanted to offer people a chance to get away from the meathead mentality of “no pain, no gain” without sacrificing results. So this is why I combined the healing modalities of yoga and Five Stages with other techniques that I have amassed during my 15 years as an ACE certified personal trainer, 8 years as a Washington state licensed massage therapist, a Black Belt in Nia and 13 years of yoga and meditation practice to create JAG Energy Flow. Energy Flow provides a vigorous workout but never loses sight of pleasure, safety and allowing our bodies phenomenal potential for self-healing.
